Once, ribbons belonged only to nobles and were given to others as special gifts. Today, everyone can have it-ribbons are wound, folded, woven, glued, and finally made into exquisite accessories. Let us know what kind of ribbon it is.

Ribbons or ribbons, colored ribbons, with their eye-catching colors and designs, can make an ordinary gadget the icing on the cake. Ribbons can be turned into trendy accessories with personal style by folding, knotting, sewing and bonding.

Ribbons can be bought in many places, from ordinary handicraft shops, boutique fabric shops to online shops. The ribbons on the market have a width from 5mm to 130mm, with different prices and qualities.
The edge of the ribbon is easy to wear and needs to be sealed with a seaming liquid, or heated with a brush or lighter. The edges can also be sewn. How to seal the edge depends on the fiber composition of the ribbon. Ribbons made of natural fibers cotton, linen, and silk should be sealed with seaming fluid, while ribbons made of chemical fiber polyester, cotton, and acetate fibers can be sealed with seaming fluid or heating.

Forged belts on the market are divided into two types: wire-clamped and non-wired. Unless otherwise noted, most knots in this book are made of non-metallic silk ribbons. Forged ribbons with metal wires are generally used for gift packaging, bouquet packaging, and making ribbon knots on wreaths. Ribbons without wires are mostly used for various hair knots.

1. Grosgrain
Texture and material: Grosgrain is a kind of textured ribbon, which can be made of chemical fiber or natural fiber.
Color and style: Grosgrain has rich colors and various styles. It is one of the most widely used and cheapest ribbons on the market.
Suitable for production: foldable headband knots and ribbon jewelry.
Plasticity: The ends of polyester grosgrain can be sealed at high temperature, and the harder grosgrain is not easy to deform when making hair band knots. Because grosgrain itself is thicker, when using a wider grosgrain to make ribbon knots, it will be difficult to tie the knot. Grosgrain is a good choice for beginners.
2. Silk
Texture and material: silk and satin are smooth and bright, with a certain drape. It can be made of chemical fiber or natural fiber.

Suitable for production: headband knots, ribbon jewelry, ribbon flowers and some wrapping knots worn on special occasions.
Plasticity: Unless it is a wired type, silk is extremely difficult to form, but silk is easy to weave into knots. When making headband knots, first try to use grosgrain, and then use silk satin after being skilled.
3. Taffeta
Texture and material: Taffeta is similar to satin, smooth and slightly shiny, but compared to satin, taffeta has a slightly worse drape. Taffeta has a little texture and can be made of chemical fibers or natural fibers.
Color and style: rich in colors, some taffetas have rainbow-like shiny colors due to the fibers in the fabric. Compared with silk and satin, taffeta is rare in the market. It is only available in some boutique ribbon fabric shops and online specialty ribbon suppliers.
Suitable for production: wrapping knots, bench knots and ribbon flowers.
Plasticity: Compared with silk, taffeta is easier to shape and use.
4. Velvet
Texture and material: velvet is fluffy and soft, with fluff on one side and smooth on the other side like taffeta. Most velvet is made of chemical fibers.
Color and style: The choice of color is not as rich as other ribbon types. Some velvets have textures, but velvets are generally solid colors.
Suitable for making: headband knots and superimposed on top of the firm knots at the bottom.
Plasticity: Velvet is thicker, so when making various knots, the thickness of the fold should be considered, and the reserved length should be longer than the recommended length.
5. Featured ribbons: frilly ribbons, lace, beaded ribbons
Texture and material: These new-style ribbons are different in texture, feel and fiber composition.
Color and style: You may be able to buy these special ribbons in general handicraft shops, but most of the time, if you want to buy these special ribbons, you have to go to boutique ribbon shops, boutique fabric shops or online shopping.
Suitable for production: headband knots, wrapping knots, bench knots and ribbon flowers worn on special occasions. Many characteristic ribbons are expensive, but just a little decoration can immediately add to the work.
Plasticity: Since each characteristic ribbon is different, you must touch, feel, and practice more before making it.
6. Ribbon with metal wire
Texture and material: shiny and smooth, thickness varies according to different manufacturers. It is generally made of nylon or polyester fiber with metal components.
Color and style: mostly gold, silver, rose gold. Some ribbons will show different colors due to the different metals added.
Suitable for production: Just like silk and satin, satin ribbons with metal wires are suitable for making headband knots, satin ribbon jewelry, satin ribbon flowers and other wrapping knots worn on special occasions.
Plasticity: The feel and thickness of the satin ribbon with the metal wire are different, but the method of folding and knotting the satin ribbon and the satin with the metal wire are roughly the same. Ribbons with metal wires are easily worn.
7. Chiffon, tulle ribbon, hard yarn ribbon
Texture and material: This kind of satin ribbon is a thin and transparent woven satin ribbon, some of which have satin edge. Most of the thin transparent ribbons are generally made of nylon, but they are different.
Color and style: some printing or texture, usually solid color. The color selection is not as rich as other ribbons.
Suitable for production: long tail ribbons and prominent embellishments in layered knots.
Plasticity: Breathable and light, easy to knit into knots, easy to roll and fold. This kind of ribbon is easy to wear and will produce a lot of smoke and unpleasant odors during heat sealing, so it must be operated in a well-ventilated place. It is recommended to wear a mask for heat sealing.
8. Jacquard ribbon
Texture and material: embroidered ribbons, the front and back are distinct. It can be made of chemical fiber, natural fiber, or a mixture of the two.
